HAMPTON, Va. (WVEC) — A police pursuit on the interstate ended in a crash early Monday morning, but a trooper was able to pull the driver to safety as the vehicle became engulfed in flames.
According to Virginia State Police, a trooper on patrol identified a stolen vehicle shortly after 4 a.m. The vehicle, a 2008 Ford Fusion, was driving north on I-664 in Hampton. The trooper attempted to pull over the vehicle, but the driver refused to stop and instead fled at a high rate of speed.
The chase extended to I-64 West and then off the interstate at Magruder Boulevard. Police said that in the area of Butler Farm Road, the driver lost control, went off the road and struck several trees, causing the car to catch fire.
