Multiple people were injured in Rolla early Thursday morning as a result of a multi-vehicle crash at the intersection of Kingshighway and Bishop Avenue. Sgt. Cody Mitchell of the Missouri State Highway Patrol told Phelps County Focus on scene that the incident occurred due to a suspect fleeing law enforcement in a pickup truck.
Mitchell reports troopers initiated pursuit of the pickup on Interstate 44 at the request of the Phelps County Sheriff’s Department. The pickup then exited the interstate in Rolla, at which point a Missouri S&T officer observed it traveling southbound on Bishop Avenue at a high rate of speed. The collision occurred at Bishop’s intersection with Kingshighway. Three vehicles sustained disabling damage in the crash. Mitchell said two other vehicles were also hit.
Sheriff Richard Lisenbe reported to the Focus Thursday morning that the chase began in connection to the driver of the pickup speeding on the interstate. Lisenbe said after a pursuing deputy initiated his emergency lights, the pickup began driving erratically in order to avoid being stopped.
