MARTIN, S.D. — Authorities responded to a two-vehicle crash on the west side of Martin on Thursday that quickly turned into a pursuit after two individuals fled the scene.
The Martin Volunteer Fire Department tweeted that shortly before 5 p.m. officials responded to a crash in which a pickup had been rear-ended by a car. Two individuals reportedly were in the car and fled the scene on foot, running north into a tree line. Law enforcement began searching for the two as crews started cleaning up the wreck.
One of the individuals then ran out of the trees and stole a pickup from the construction crew. The stolen vehicle headed west on Highway 18 through the original crash scene — nearly striking four firefighters that were helping clean up and directing traffic.
