WAUWATOSA — Two people were injured after a pursuit ended in a shootout with Wauwatosa police early Tuesday morning, January 9th.
It began around 12:30 a.m. when Wauwatosa officers attempted to stop a suspicious vehicle. The vehicle fled from police and a pursuit was initiated.
A tire deflation device was successfully deployed in an attempt to end the pursuit. The vehicle eventually stopped near 85th and Concordia in Milwaukee.
According to Wauwatosa police, immediately upon exiting the car, a suspect began shooting at officers. The suspect fired multiple rounds and at least two of the rounds struck one of the squad cars.
Officers returned fire as the suspect continued to shoot while running away from the car. The suspect was armed with a semi-automatic handgun that was recovered at the scene.
There were four total occupants in the vehicle. The suspect who shot at police is believed to be the driver. The vehicle, a white 2015 Subaru, was stolen from Milwaukee on January 3rd, 2018.
The suspect is a 23-year-old man from Milwaukee who has a lengthy arrest record. He was struck by at least two rounds fired by officers. He was treated and has been released from the hospital.
A 19-year-old female passenger was also struck by one round. It is unknown at this time if she was struck by the suspect or police. She was also treated and has been released from the hospital.
No officers were hurt.
Wauwatosa Police are investigating this shooting and the Milwaukee Police Department is assisting. The Wisconsin Department of Justice Crime Lab is processing the scene for evidence.
